At 19 Sixty-Four, every month we spotlight a producer that embodies both the elegance and soul of great winemaking. This November, we celebrate one of the most revered names in Spanish wine: Familia Torres.
With winemaking roots dating back to 1559, and officially founded in 1870 in the heart of Catalonia, Familia Torres is a dynasty of visionaries. Across five generations, they’ve pioneered sustainable viticulture, revived forgotten native grape varieties, and pushed the boundaries of climate-conscious wine production. Under the leadership of Miguel A. Torres, the winery embraced French varietals and stainless-steel innovation in the 1960s, ushering in an era of modern winemaking that continues to inspire to this day.
From global acclaim to local sustainability, Torres’ wines tell a story of heritage, innovation, and deep respect for the land. Their work has revived rare Catalan grapes like Garro and Querol, birthed iconic wines such as Mas La Plana, and established their estates in both Chile and California.
This Month’s Pick: Viña Esmeralda
A radiant white wine that sings of the Mediterranean coast, Viña Esmeralda is an aromatic delight made from Muscat and Gewürztraminer.
Tasting Notes:A seductive bouquet of lemon blossom, ripe grape, pineapple, lychee, and mango leads to a silky, lightly sweet palate. Delicate notes of orange blossom honey and floral lift carry through the finish, offering balance, charm, and freshness in every sip.
Whether you're enjoying a glass at our bar or sharing a bottle with friends, Viña Esmeralda is a gentle reminder of how expressive and elegant a white wine can be.
